Launching Kathmandu University CanSat Initiative Soon

sorry boys took this without permission, you know I love you all.

Alright guys, just a quick post here.

I will be teaming up with three different, experienced CanSat teams from Seoul National University to help tailor a curriculum to teach a selected few interested individuals from Kathmandu University's School of Engineering to help build a base to start out on their own "Satellite in a Can" project.

CanSats can be as simple as making it on a Pepsi Bottle, made by Ji
Dr. Maskey, Associate Dean of School of Engineering, has been keen on developing CubeSats in Nepal, however, would like first initiate a CanSat project to help build the basics required to go on and build KU's first nanosatellite. It's a long dusty road ahead but the engines need to start roaring at some point; even if there's a looming fuel crisis.

While in discussion with the associate dean, we were able to identify two bottle necks to launching the initiative; 1) issue of being able to receive components in time 2) launching the CanSat. Prof. Maskey has assured that 1) can be taken care of as components are starting to become available (GPS, Gyros, Accelerators, Temp Sensors, Imaging Payloads, Motors, RW) and 2) can be done through KU's KUCopter as mentioned on the paper written by SNU's Jaeyong Lim and Dong Ho Kang. For 1) I am thinking about developing a CanSat Kit of my own, so depending on how much time I can spare out, I will be working on that as well.

That means the only issue right now is to work on how we can effectively teach the kids back home some embedded systems engineering that could one day help them to launch CanSat competitions of their own and eventually go on to participate in international competitions held in both Japan and US. I think it will be quite fascinating to see Nepal being represented in the CanSat community.

The teams that will be helping me out are:

The kids are still working on documenting their work, so will post them up once I have them. They have already agreed to do a 10 minute video recorded presentation for KU.

Not the best of presentation slides, but their autonomous rover was pretty awesome

The way to approach teaching them is through video lectures, but I still need to get the details fixed before I can really start working on recording the videos.

One step at a time.
